Muscular Dystrophy Western Australia continually raises funds for research into muscular dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most devastating of all the dystrophies. The genetic condition effects boys only and through the continual weakening of muscles and severely shortening their life span. Constant effort is essential to ensure that WA remains at the cutting edge of scientific research into neuromuscular diseases. This will require an ongoing and increasingly costly commitment from Muscular Dystrophy WA to fund the vital research. It is only through research that a treatment and possible cure will be found.
